review 1: I truly enjoy this series of suspense / mystery novels by Ms Black. The stories are set in the Cleveland, Ohio area where I was born and raised for a number of years. The locations mentioned in the book are for the most part real, and thus make the story more interesting for those of us familiar with Cleveland. The fact that she is also a very good writer, and uses her backgroun d as a forensic pathologist in the writing, makes each story even better.
review 2: What?It started out well - creepy-ish cover art, intriguing description. This is apparently the second book in a series, but I had never heard of or read the first, and to this book's credit, I don't think it's necessary to have read the first. ... moreic details of the crime scenes IS impressive. However, the narrative soon devolves into the sort of tale in which the villian(s) ultimately end up explaining their entire plan to the good guys right before the bad guys plan to kill them, but of course the good guy, Theresa or Tess, has outwitted them. I'll avoid spoilers, but suffice to say that the quick explanations toward the end of how everything gets neatly tied up was truly cringe-worthy in cases. This is probably a first, in which I actually intentionally left a book on the plane when I was done. less
