review 1: I can’t believe I’m actually giving this one less than five stars. After enjoying Personal Demons and Original Sin so much, I was expecting the final book in this series to be amazing. But Last Rite was a let down for me. Almost nothing happened in the first half of the book. Pretty much all Frannie, Luc and Gabe did was obsess over their tragic love lives, which annoyed me. You’d think that with the army of hell after them, they’d have more pressing things to worry about, but nope.Another let down was Frannie, which I wasn’t expecting. Since the first book, she’s always come off as a pretty strong, intelligent girl and I rarely got annoyed with her. But in Last Rite, the things I liked about her were gone. When she wasn’t obsessing about her love life, she w... moreas feeling guilty over everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING! Even things that were not her fault) and making decisions that were ridiculous. The second half of the book did start to pick up, but then fell flat. Once again, Frannie makes choices that aren’t very wise and trusts people that she should never be trusting. The ending was okay, but not as epic as it could’ve been. Frannie finally makes a choice between Gabe and Luc and I was pretty happy with who she chose, even though I still felt bad for the other guy. That’s what sucks about liking both men.Last Rite was an okay book, but I felt there could’ve been so much more done with it.
review 2: After Original Sin, the Personal Demon books just weren't the same again. I felt like that book was mocking my intelligence and Last Rite wasn't as outstanding as I wished it was. And I wasn't comparing it to my favourite books, I was comparing it with Personal Demons. The book was slow-moving with a lot of indecisiveness, uncertainty and incidents that just came outta nowhere that did not make the plot any more attractive. I don't usually diss books off. I really loved the first book of this series but the second and third books just weren't my thing. Too predictable and too slow, I'm afraid. less
