Key West Food Critic Mystery
review 1: I read an article on Culture Map by a local food critic describing some her favorite Culinary Mysteries and AN APPETITE FOR MURDER was on the list. I hardly ever pass up a recommendation on a new cozy mystery, especially if it is about food. That's how I discovered AN APPETITE FOR MURDER, the first book in the Key West Food Critic Mystery series.Jersey girl and food lover, Hayley Snow, has followed her boyfriend to lovely Key West. Hayley is a girl of many passions, her boyfriend, her family, and food. Her wish is to become a food critic and Key West looks like just the place to start her career. She has applied for a job with the new Key Zest magazine. Hayley comes home one day and finds her boyfriend in bed with the owner of Key Zest. Whoops! Doesn't seem like things cou... moreld get much worse, but of course they do. The owner of the Key Zest magazine is found murdered and Hayley is first on the list of suspects. I pondered over the rating for this book. I really did enjoy it, but Hayley is another sweet young, ditzy heroine that I really am tired of. On the other hand, I read this book in one day and enjoyed the other characters in the book. The wonderful descriptions of Key West and the food really are the stars.
review 2: This is the first in a culinary mystery series set in Key West FL. I love palm trees and "light" mysteries (without a lot of blood and guts) so I thought I'd give this series a try. This is the story of a somewhat bumbling young woman who is a food critic and finds herself in some interesting and perilous situations as she tries to figure out who actually committed a murder of which she is accused. She has a cat that she loves (named Evinrude - like the boat motor) and an ex that she no longer loves. The book has action but also has some descriptives of Key West. I've never been there but the descriptions made it come alive for me. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the books in the series. less
