review 1: I enjoyed this book but I'm sorry to say something about it fell short for me. It doesn't seem very memorable. The only things that stand out are the character traits/ personality of the characters. The end is too short, I was expecting at least a couple more. There is no real climax other than the resolution of the main characters resolving it by telling each other how they feel and that they except one another. There was not a lot of character development. What development there was lacked.
review 2: Liked it until their lies started coming out. Which I thought would be much sooner since it is brought up in the synopsis but doesn't start to happen until half way through the book. Don't like double standards and the hero had a hissy fit over the heroine who w
... moreas hiding her weakness and trying to protect herself while also having a secret he never planned to tell her. Thought some things needed to be expanded on. Some things needed more explanation. Hero, who wasn't planning to tell heroine his secret, all of a sudden decides he needs to when he fears his friend will. I thought he knew his friend knew about him but he acted like he didn't and now feared his friend will spill the beans or whatever. Also, what point is there to bring a plot line of someone trying to hurt/kill the heroine only to never bring it up again until the epilogue saying they were sent to another clan.I was angry at the ending because I thought the whole confrontation between hero and heroine didn't bring up the most important points like the double standards or the fact that she is deaf but could hear is voice in her head and he kept that from her on purpose. Or the fact that he sent a letter to annul the marriage to the king in a drunken rage but never sent another letter after he calmed down and accepted her to ignore the first. He obviously remembered the he wrote the letter. But he just ask her to forgive him and that he threatened war if the king tried to take her away. But that would have never happened if he just wrote a second letter. Oh, and when he found out she was deaf, he had to embarrass her in front of his men instead of taking her aside and discussing it.Hero spent his time running away and heroine was a doormat to the hero and everyone else who wanted to walk all over her. Housekeeper kept changing her orders and she keeps changing them back and trying to make friends with housekeeper. *blegh* I read in the fifth book that heroine gave the hero a merry chase but I saw no chase. The "chase" happened in the last 30 pages when she finally finds out his secret. I knew I wasn't going to like the ending because I felt there was not enough time to deal with all their issues and the fact that he kept his own secret from her. She wanted to be with him despite all he did and easily forgave all his lies and misdeeds.I think the author has good ideas but I don't know if she can execute into something that I will like from start to finish. After reading three of her books, I like the beginning but by the end, I lost my interest. I think she doesn't leave enough time to deal with all the issues between H/h that maybe makes me feel a little bit like I got ripped off. less
