review 1: A wonderful and attractive graphic story for children of unfolding problems on a number of scales. The story unfolds with a mix of whimsy and absurdity creating a simple and enchanting fantasy world to dwell in for a while. Pearson's illustrations are quietly evocative, their beauty brings his story to life through crisp lines, an unusual palette that while subdue has a warmth, and an endearing character design. Coupled together they create a beautiful and attractive book, one that will have you mesmerised while you are reading and that you will still find inviting to pore over again once you have finished.
review 2: Hilda and her mother keep getting strange tiny notes warning them to leave. An elf eventually clues Hilda into what's going on, and she tries to
... more work out a deal with the elves. In the meantime, Hilda has also been noticing a strange giant appearing in the area at night and she wants to figure out who he is and why he's suddenly started showing up.An imaginative story, that should spur some interesting thoughts on perspective. The color scheme in the Hilda books is always interesting to me since it is all earth tones and blue, but it does help convey the fantasy element of the world.Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. Some rocks are thrown and houses are stepped on, but no one is hurt. less

For some reason, I thought this book was set in Scotland. Then they mentioned fjords.
