review 1: This was a mediocre true crime book that was hobbled by a writer with a sloppy style. I lost track of the number of times the writer notes "this would prove to be important later," or "the significance would become apparent later," etc. I'm not a huge true crime fan because so many of them read like they're written lightning quick and poorly edited. This book was no exception. The book describes a horrific quadruple murder in Houston and the efforts to solve them. The story itself is compelling because the victims were young and the crime seemed so inexplicable. The book doesn't do the story justice though and I ended up rushing through the second half. Not recommended.
review 2: Interesting story about a murder of four young people which took place in July of
... more 1993. Because of the overloaded Houston Police Department, this case took almost four years to solve, although it could have been solved far earlier. The murders looked like a drug deal gone bad, but although minimal drug use was involved, this was not your usual type of drug related crime. In fact, that old green-eyed monster jealousy was much more of a motive in this crime. What was unusual to me was the fact that the murders took place at around 3:15 PM, yet except for one couple who happened to get a short look at the guilty parties and never connected them to the crime, no one in the neighborhood saw anything. The story was very interesting and showed how long a fairly simple crime can take to be solved. (I read this book on my Kindle Fire device). less
