review 1: I'm not really sure how I found this book, but I am so happy that I have. I find it empowering to all of us "single women" out there. I also enjoyed how it talked about God and how he has bigger plans for us all. In life we can be very impatient because it comes as a burden to wait for something that you really deserve. We go after what we want, rather than what God wants us to have. Sometimes the things that we want are truly the most toxic things out there for us. But also sometimes they can be our destiny. For seven months I have been dealing with a broken heart. And yes, I have been going back and forth about what I really want in life. I have been impatient through this trying time and I haven't been waiting for God to make his move. I was actually afraid that he would... moren't do anything at all to help me out a little bit. But after reading this book I have figured out that all that time I had spent wasting on one guy (who truly deserved nothing more than a good-bye to begin with) has kept me away from my true purpose. My true destiny. And my true love (wherever/whomever he may be). This book is amazing. It is for all of us single women out there who just want to let go of the past and become ourselves. I seriously recommend it to anyone who needs a pick me up. Probably the best book I have read by far. If God brings you to it, he will most definitely bring you through it. Just let go and let God take the wheel. Thank you, Mandy Hale, for giving me the courage through your words to find my place in this world.
review 2: The Single Woman: Life, Love, and a Dash of Sass was a very empowering read for me. Obviously, as a single woman, it can be a struggle sometimes. In the first chapter Mandy describes how women should be celebrated for being single, and I completely agree. More and more I can see that women are becoming stronger and more comfortable with the idea of not having someone else complete their life. She also stresses that a man should "compliment" you, not "complete" you. This is actually something I talk about when I read a lot of books as well, is that if you don't feel happy with yourself, how is another person going to change that? Happiness always comes from within. Although my path is a lot more different than Hale's, I am so honored to have read her book. If she hadn't gone through everything she did, she wouldn't be the author she is today. Everything she went through, even the bad times, was all for a reason. And that reason was to write this book to encourage other single ladies. There were three really great lessons that stood out to me in this book. First, that it's impertinent to know your worth. You know yourself better than anyone and so you shouldn't just settle for anyone that comes along. She stresses that it's okay to have standards and wait for what you want. Second, to trust your instincts and let God lead you away from something that you thought was right for yourself at the time. And third, to build a great life and live out your dreams and then someday (maybe) someone will come along that will join you in your "fabulous" life. I know I definitely have those days where I wonder why certain relationships didn't happen, as I'm sure we all do. Or maybe some guys were jerks to you. Whatever the case, it only helped make me stronger. And also made me be the person I am today. Mandy says she wouldn't take anything back, and I completely agree. Everything in life, good or bad, can either strengthen us or hinder us. And we only have one life, after all. This book really opened my eyes to how great it is to be single, and how excited I am to just keep building my life where I don't need "a hero" to rescue me from it. less
