review 1: Libro che mi ha suscitato sentimenti contrastanti. Chiariamoci: la Mazzantini scrive bene, ma veramente bene. Il problema è stato proprio questo, quando vengono coinvolta così tanto spero sempre di immedesimarmi e rivedermi nel personaggio principale, Gemma invece è un personaggio che ho odiato dalla prima all'ultima pagina. Incarna la classica madre che desidera avere un figlio esclusivamente per egoismo; già dalle prime pagine, quando disse di volere un figlio solo perché aveva paura di perdere Diego, era di una tristezza inaudita. molto commovente l'atmosfera della guerra di Sarajevo; 4/5 per via del finale completamente a sorpresa.. è anche vero che per una serie di cose è piuttosto irrealistico, però ci sta e a mio modo l'ho interpretato anche come una sorta d... morei "punizione" della vita all'egoismo di Gemma.
review 2: Being child-free, by choice, and living a happy, fulfilled life I could not relate to Gemma's obsession with motherhood to the exclusion of everything else that was happening in her life and around her. Her choices destroyed the bond she shared with Diego. I found Gemma self-centred and spoiled.....who lives in a war zone as an observer and doesn't do a thing to help the people around her?? The descriptions of everyday survival and the stories of the people in Sarajevo were compelling but the overwrought story of Gemma's quest for motherhood got tired about half way through the book. less
