Jenna Fox Chronicles
review 1: The book I read was The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson. My book was science fiction because it was placed in the future where some doctors had the ability to rebuild bodies. This book is about a teenage girl who was in terrible accident and was supposed to die but didn't. When she wakes up a year after the accident she has lost all her memory or so she thinks. Throughout the book the reader is taken on a journey of Jenna Fox remembering more things everyday. The book is suspensful and really keeps the reader on their toes. I rated this book 5 stars because I love all the new twists and turns on every page.
review 2: I personally enjoyed this novel, and would not have picked it up initially. I thought that this would be too sci-fi for me, but it turns
... more out this wasn't the case. The romance in the book, while relatively mild for a young adult novel, kept me from being overcome with too much science-fiction. We get to see Jenna slowly regain herself from a horrendous accident that left her in a coma for over a year. She has to pick at pieces of her memory that slowly returns. She also struggles to understand some of the apparent issues with her family that she does not remember- for example: why is she isolated from them? This causes us to struggle at who to believe- and sometimes, I found myself struggling to believe Jenna herself.I disliked one part of the book- the poems that portrayed Jenna's emotions throughout the novel. I felt, at times, it was too typical of a teenager, in an otherwise completely untypical world. The main theme of this novel was questioning how far would someone go to protect and save a child. I also believe it had a commentary on how far science may get in the way of natural life. When do we stop? When should we pull the plug, if you'll pardon the pun, on medical assistance? Where do we cross the lines? It reminds me of some of the stories we see in the news today: Comatose Patient Wakes Up After 20 Years Unresponsive! We can see so many examples of this throughout the novel, like Alyss who loses her limbs due to bacterial infections, but yet still lives. But her quality of life? Well, that's up for the reader to decide. We can then look at what Jenna's life as become.. or what it isn't. If we look at the comatose patient who finally woke up after 20 years, would they really be the same person? Or would they be a vessel of what the person was before they fell into a coma?I recommend this book for anyone who questions the involvement of science with nature and anyone who enjoys a mystery. less
