review 1: "Abe Lincoln at Last" by Mary Pope Osborne is one of the Magic Tree House series. The two children, Jack and Annie, are the main characters who go back in time to see Abe Lincoln to give him a message. Along the way, they learn many new things about the past, even more so than they had expected. There are interesting facts dropped throughout the book which makes a great way for kids to learn. The story also has a theme of perseverance and hope. I recommend this story to young children ages 6 and higher. For 1st and 2nd grade, it would be a fun read-aloud for students to briefly learn about Abraham Lincoln and to learn about the past. For grades 3-5, I think this is best suitable for students to read in addition to learning about Lincoln. I definitely recommend this book to... more young readers because it makes the history truly engaging for them!
review 2: My 6 yr old is becoming a voracious reader and his teacher recommended this series so I picked up a few from the library. My son loves it. Magic and fun and adventure rolled into a chapter book that's easy to read, yet challenging enough that he's not bored. Many of these are educational as well, focusing on a particular point in history such as a president's reign, or a location, like Ireland in this one, which goes really well with his geography and history lessons. He's loving it, and already has said these are the books he wants to read for the challenge. Overall a great step into chapter books for the advanced reader. less
