Beside Your Heart
review 1: The first book Beside your Heart has you bawling at the beauty of such a story and the bittersweet ending. You will be raptured by the intensity of the emotion and desire that runs among Nicki and Adam. This third installment has us seeing the story from Adam's point of view and it is a wonderful view. I love Adam. He feels guilty over their past and is so in love with her it makes your head spin. You see why he got frustrated with her at times when you sit in his chair and get that perspective. Adam is just as sweet and wonderful in this book as he was the first two. A patient man who takes the assignment of White House reporter for the BBC in hopes of seeing Nicki again. His dreams are to have her again. After 16 years he s still in love with her. Now though it’s more c... moreomplicated since she is the assistant press secretary at the white house, he’s a reporter, his dad is ill and she is seeing someone. Which to me her relationship screams irony because she left Adam high and dry because long distance relationships won’t work she’ll never leave the states and yet she has travelled everywhere and her boyfriend travels constantly as a political consultant. That is the pot calling the kettle black. As she is trying to ignore Adam, Adam is pursuing her. Adam gets confused and isn't sure what is going on. He doesn't know how to interpret things. when they go to lunch and she gets upset later on he berates himself because he remembers something from their times together and it makes him see what she was thinking but did not know how to fix it. And in a dogged fashion at first he tries to get her to just be friends but as they get closer the emotions get stronger. The cast of characters from the first book are here as well. My favorite is David. He is a hoot and such a ladies man. But no matter what anyone thinks about David he is fiercely loyal to Adam. At times Nicki shows her selfishness and how she is still that scared girl wanting success instead of a woman with confidence and a man who loves her. Such a wonderfully written and beautiful story in which you see Adam support Nicki at every turn and show her love and devotion. A must read and don’t forget the tissues for you will need them for Ms. Whitney does it again and will have you crying at this amazing story.
review 2: 4.5 stars. This was my favorite book of the series, probably because it's in Adam's POV and I love his British vocabulary (and accent). It definitely helps to have read the first book to understand the high school relationship between Nicki and Adam. Even though Adam may have made some mistakes in the past, I still knew he and Nicki had a special connection. As adults, obviously both Nicki and Adam have matured and this time around, Adam isn't letting Nicki get away without a fight. His cousin David added some much needed comic relief. Sylvia is also very entertaining. Although I really liked Nicki, I wasn't as big of a fan of Lisa so reading from Nicki's POV wasn't as fun as Adam's. Also, there's more to the ending in this book than the last one, making it more worthwhile to read. less
