The Invincible Iron Man
review 1: After reading the first hardcover and really enjoying it a couple of years ago, I wanted to come back to Invincible Iron Man particularly after reading a couple Marvel series where the quality dropped over time. It seems that Matt Fraction is perfect for this book and this is also the kind of Iron Man book that I really want to read. The emphasis on technology and the way that this feels a little more "real" than some of the superhero books out there is very appealing. With that said, this volume is a little by the numbers as it is essentially a rebuilding of Tony Stark. This is commonly done in superhero stories and there isn't much in this story that is going to surprise you if you read that before. The best moments are where characters really get to breath in this ... morebook. There is a lot of talking, but there is also more depth than the average superhero comic has. Larocca's art is very good in this book as well. It has a very unique style and I always enjoy flipping through the panels to see the lines and coloring. I'm looking forward to reading more of this series and I'm confident that the story will return to its high standard in the next volume.
review 2: OK now this is a solid Iron Man book. It picks up just after Tony has shut himself down after his battle with Norman Osborne. Iron Man/Stark/SHIELD/everything Tony had in his mind is gone, so Osborne can't get at the Superhuman Registry and eliminate all the heroes. Unfortunately, Tony has left himself in a vegetative state and it will take the combined efforts of both Captain Americas (Steve Rogers AND Bucky), Thor/Don Blake, Black Widow, Pepper Potts, Maria Hill, and Dr. Strange to bring him back.I like when they reserve crossover storylines for major events, so this feels more important than just another story. Well worth a read, though it might make more sense to read in order, and recall this takes place in the midst of Norman Osborne's reign of terror. Oh and the artwork is stellar. less
