review 1: This was the first book I've read in the series and I enjoyed it, but wondered why the author seemed to include spoilers about what happened in the first two books. I would have looked for those too but now know "whodunnit." Oh well. I will definitely look for future books in the series however.[return][return]I am also a fan of CJ Sansom's Shardlake series and this was similar but a lot lighter and with more humor, a good quick read.
review 2: This book is great for nerdy people who are interested in medieval daily life and medieval medicine, so it is great fun for me. Otherwise, the mystery and characters are okay. The dialogue and commentary by the first person narrator are stilted and the phrasing is repetitious. I was about to throw the book across the roo
... morem if I read the phrase "comely lass" one more time. I will read all these books because the protagonist is a medieval surgeon and I have an interest in that so it is enjoyable for me, but I would not recommend it for general consumption. less
