review 1: *SPOILERS*This book had amazing potential, but it kind of failed in the interesting section. I really charecter development, but this book was just non stop them talking and learning, and it wasn't really adding to his personality or his view as a reader. He faces all of these crazy monsters, dragons, wraiths, trolls whatever, and the whole company is never in danger. They sort of pretend, like "Oh no! It's a troll, the whole company of totally experienced knowledgeable warriors needs to run away, but the first time adventurer teenager can destroy it BY HIMSELF?" What!? This book is so close, but so far. Everyone is saying it is like a combination of Dungeons and Dragons, but it is not close at all. Just because it is fantasy does not make it accurate. It's perception of m... moreagic is way off, warriors are underrated, and so are dragons. They are supposed to be the most powerful monster, where it is super dangerous, but then he kills it with one swing of his magical sword, which just happened to choose him. I don't know, I just feel like it could've been a lot better, but it didn't meet my expectations.
review 2: A fantastic read! I started reading this book at the recommendation of a close friend, and I'm so glad I did. It's a great book. The characters, setting, writing, everything about it scream quality. My favorite part has to be how the character interact with each other. Their dynamic made it a joy to read. Honestly, as M.L. Forman's very first novel, I'm even more impressed. I look forward to the other books in the series! less
