review 1: This one was better than the first one. I love the lessons it teaches and I love that it's not a series of unfortunate events. Somethings go as planned and some don't, but the hero of the story doesn't fail at everything until the last battle where he miraculously wins. I love this! I didn't realize how it bothered me since that's the way it's usually done until I read this book and realized how much more real it is that the hero's successes should build on themselves. While I absolutely agree that failures make us stronger and lead to success, I have a hard time buying that someone who seems incapable of doing anything can suddenly do everything in the end, if that makes sense. Anyway, I am really enjoying these books and as soon as I'm done, I'm passing them along to my ... more8yo because they are also very appropriate for younger readers.
review 2: I forgot to add this to my read list, either very early last year or end of 2011. I remember thoroughly enjoying the tale, the adventure and the characters. The description says it's a perfect series for boys. I would go further and say it's a perfect tale for anyone at any age or sex that enjoys a good story! Full of moral decisions to make, adventure, different characters and personalities, good vs. evil, friendship and teamwork. The list goes on. less

One of the few instances where the sequel is better than the prequel. 5 out of 5
