Adventurers Wanted
review 1: Surprisingly, as much as I loved the first book in this series, I enjoyed and appreciated the second installment even more. There is a wonderful rhythm and pacing to the author's writing; not hurried or rushed, but moving forward at a very steady and pleasant manner. Although adults and older youth might wish for a greater depth or complexity, I am struck by way the simplicity and straightforwardness of the story manages to investigate and consider significant manners in a thoughtful way. I've already compared the series to the Hobbit and the Chronicles of Narnia and Prydain, and I continue to see the similarities between those works and this one. I also find many of the same qualities in the Adventurers Wanted series as we enjoyed in the Rangers Apprentice; and I woul... mored compare the writing to the first few Harry Potter books, in terms of their language and character presentation and development. I especially appreciate the author's gentle way of exploring and extolling the virtues of honor, kindness, generosity, wisdom, and friendship. The reader has the opportunity to consider and admire these traits in the main character, even as he learns them, practices them, and values them. If the series continues in the way that it is going, I have no doubt that it will become one of my all-time favorites. There are five books available so far, I believe, but we are guessing that the series will include seven before it is all said and done. That means some waiting with breathless anticipating, but I'm pleased that my younger children and I will have the joy of that experience, as my older children and I did with the Harry Potter books.
review 2: Another fantastic adventure! The change in characters from the first book, as well as keeping some of he old ones, made it feel fresh, but still familiar. I also enjoyed the pace of this one. What I love about these books is that they never seem to drag on, which always keeps you turning the page. Also, I really love how this world is starting to come alive. Getting to know the places and people of this book makes it so much more believable. A great read! less
