review 1: I'm not a sailing person and so I didn't expect to love this book, but I did, and am so glad I got it. I actually prefer it to "White Woman on a Green Bicycle": the writing is almost poetic and the emotions she describes are so laid raw that they brought tears to my eyes. The theme is heart-wrenching loss of different kinds and the ways we deal with each one. It is also about loneliness and isolation, that of the sailors but also that of each island they visit. Island/Isolation. A theme running throughout. Roffey kept my attention throughout her narration of months of sailing. Recommended!
review 2: This story was difficult for me. The author captures emotion on this small world and gives it a good shake. It is at once beautiful, and sad and maddening. If I
... morewere able to finish the final chapters, I would likely have given five stars. But there was a particular incident that caused me to toss this book from my hands and break down in tears. This is of no fault of the author, but rather because of her great storytelling ability that I could not, in my present state of mind, read any further. Someday, I will. less

I liked the Caribbean flavour, but if it hadn't been for that, I probably wouldn't have finished it.
