review 1: Oh, the food descriptions are mouthwatering and beautiful in this book. Sometimes even too baroque if I might say, but that's something to forgive. However what I can't forgive is that - given such a great seed for the story such a captivating style to describe food - how could the book remain so shallow, so unentertaining? It was like scratching the surface of something interesting in one moment and then after half a page giving up on it and jumping on the next character, next thought. Unfortunately it just didn't do it for me.
