review 1: I really enjoyed reading The Boy on the Bridge by Natalie Standiford. I loved this book because it forced me to go outside my comfort zone as a reader and it introduced me to concepts I was unaware of. I was mesmerized by the mysterious, dark atmosphere of Russia during the Cold War and the fact that people there were so mischievous. For example, a russian man known as Alyosha, tricked Laura, an innocent college student studying aboard, into falling in love with him, marrying him, and taking him back to America, just so that he could escape Russia and become wealthy. I was not familiar with this idea and it shocked me immensely. This novel taught me that compared to Russia, America is like a fairytale. I recommend The Boy on the Bridge to anyone who likes fiction books fil... moreled with romance, heartbreak, suffering, and revenge.
review 2: This novel written for teens explores a star-crossed relationship set in Leningrad during the early 1980's. A girl from United States meets a boy from Russia. They fall in love but that is when the complications begin. She is on a student visa and cannot stay in Russia. Ordinary Russian citizens do not have the money or the means to travel to the United States. Standiford vividly captures not only the beautiful scenery of Russia but the history, culture and day to day struggles of the citizens. less
