review 1: -shrugs-look at this point i could summarize the series to you? but my description would be something like 'kids get taken to school of horrors, lots of gore and time travel ensues. biblical references all over; four volumes in and still not clear whether there's purpose or significance to them. art is okay; occasionally ugly and frequently male gazey but generally gets the point across'idk right now my my recommended strategy would be to pick a character to latch on to and cross your fingers. mine is currently hisao because so far he's the only character who is both sweet and not engulfed in a cloud of mystery. i actually feel like i get you hisao! maybe you can shine your clarity on some of the other characters, that'd be greatike got built up some this volume too but i'... morell pass, i don't truck with misogynist dickheads3 stars
review 2: This just gets more and more like Lost…and with this book, we've gotten to the "crazy" stage with time travel and more mysteries than ever and I feel like it's that scene in Lost where Jacob is a little boy and the woman who is his "mother" meets some castaway who asks what's going on and she says something like "I could tell you, but it would just lead to more questions." I really hope this series eventually answers all my questions and has a satisfying conclusion. Oddly, at the end of this book, they had a primer showing all the different main characters and talking about how though there all so many characters, the artist, Joe Eisma, has worked really hard to give everyone a distinct look...but I think everyone looks like same! I'm having the hardest time figuring out if people are really the same in multiple roles, or if they really are supposed to be different people. Like Casey's dad kinda looks like Abraham...and Nine looks pretty much like every other blond woman in the book - but I'm not sure if that's on purpose because they're all clones? And in this volume I had a lot of trouble telling Akiko and Irina apart...and I'm not sure if Irina was the woman on the TV show Hunter was watching while his mom died.Again, I hope this all makes sense in the end...although I feel like once I reach the end, I'm going to have to go back and reread it all from the beginning before I get it all.Oh, and serious thanks to Google Translator for kicking ass deciphering all the foreign languages in this one. less
