The Tourist
review 1: The third in the Tourist trilogy (The Tourist, The Nearest Exit) which feature Milo Weaver, a CIA spy in an ultra-secret section. I found this is the weakest book - this time, too much time is spent on a complicated plot involving the Chinese and US machinations as well. Ultimately, I preferred the Ruthenia Trilogy (Warsaw Pact, 40's through '60's), to this trilogy. Milo didn't grow in this book, too many characters, not as interesting as the previous two. Steinhauer is head and shoulders above other contemporary spy/thriller writers, so I still recommend.
review 2: This is another very good book by Steinhauer. The only area in which I thought it needed editing was in his descriptions of Milo and Tina's daughter, which portrayed the actions and word usage o
... moref a child much older than 6 years. It was unclear why the author included the child so frequently in the narrative, and so often had the child expressing thoughts, interpretations, word usages and attitudes that, in my experience with many young children, were unrealistic. less

I love these books. Great characters and believable plot lines with spare and succinct writing.
