review 1: Won this book through First-Reads. I didn't connect as fully to Tarrys or Charlie as I would have liked. The story seemed to "end" very quickly, but it was also obvious that this is only part of a series, so one wouldn't really EXPECT a firm ending to the story. I wasn't totally thrilled with some aspects of this story, like how Charlie got the poisoning from the Trimores (weird semi-corporeal cat beasts) when he hadn't even wound up scratched by them, didn't care either for how the only way Tarrys could care for Charlie's poisoning was to "share her power" by having sex with him. The sex scenes left a bit to be desired..... They just kind of were "there" but they didn't make me FEEL anything, certainly didn't excite me like I think a good sex scene in a good romance ... morenovel should. All that being said, I ended the story wondering how the series had begun, and wondering how it would end. I'm already looking at the previous books and the next book for my Nook, so I guess it DOES say something good about a novel if it leaves you wondering and wanting to see how things turn out at the end of the series.
review 2: This was an amazing book for the development of the character Tarrys and it's the first time we see a lot of Charlie. I love the development of Tarrys going from a submissive character to one who starts to take charge of situations. You also see a lot of development in Charlie who not really sure what the purpose of love is to falling head over heels for someone. Another thing I found interesting was that this one differs from the first two books as this one is set in Esria. I loved how different of a feel it was compared to the other two for the reason. less
