review 1: This is one of those books it is best to read "blind" to avoid spoilers: don't check out the blurb, don't let anyone tell you what to expect, just enjoy the unfolding thriller plot and interestingly complex main character. It's not bad. I resisted the urge to give a 5-star review before finishing it--something I have always come to regret--and now I am being a little generous w 4 stars, but I look forward to reading installments #2 and 3.
review 2: This is a fast paced book that is built on a very thin foundation. It plays out like a videogame. Alien technology, weird deaths, oddities abound. But it's a popcorn summer movie book. I didn't get any of the comparisons to the X Files. That was a well done, moody, atmospheric, character and plot driven series. ... more This comes nowhere near the X Files high bar.
