review 1: I received this book through Goodreads giveaways! 4.5 rating! There really is no way to summarize this book. It truly is a work of art. The message is universal and can be taken to mean many different things to different people. For me this book took an old Japanese fairytale about a crane who turns into a woman who represents love and forgiveness through time. It's about a man who finds joy in creating sculptures out of pages of books, and it's about stories that get told and passed down from generation to generation; changing within the years. This book is so beautiful, strange and thought provoking!
review 2: I WON THIS BOOK FROM GOODREADS FIRST READS GIVE AWAYS!!!!I enjoyed this book immensely. The ending was a proper one which means it was wrapped up yet ... moregave us hope that the characters' lives would continue. When characters seem real enough to go on without further writing it is a credit to the author and this author achieved that. It was quite the up and down ride. It made me weep it made me angry it invoked emotions as only a good book can. Truly I had no idea what I was getting in and some have dubbed this book boring but to me it was a very nice piece of literature that I think could be appropriate for a college English class. Full of things to dissect. I can't even begin to think of doing that because I was left breathless by the final climax of the story. There are some very strong themes that one doesn't have to look too deeply for and for anyone who enjoys a book that draws you in and obsesses you for a while, this book is amazing. As a reader I was left satisfied and yet I still hated the point of goodbye. less
