review 1: I think Peter James has a great series here and a great detective in Roy Grace, it has been a while since I have returned to the cobbled streets of Brighton to see just what are Roy is getting up to! I believe the thing about a detective series is that you should not read the complete run of books...but have a break and return and you will find that your time away and your return is very pleasant :) This is a story that crosses time from New York in the 1920's to the present and I thought it was excellent with great characters, baddies and a lovely little side story that has been ever present in the series re Roy and his first wife Sandy....is she is isn't she alive or dead? and we discover an even great secret in Dead Man's Time....but I will say no more as I do not want ... moreto spoil the story....suffice to say a lovely balanced read from Peter James and a fine addition to a wonderful series....
review 2: Had a really hard time getting into this novel. Maybe it is because I don't speak British? At least once in every chapter I had to stop and look up a phrase to see what it meant. For me that took away from the enjoyment of the story. Peter James is a #1 international best seller. In my opinion I cannot understand why. The story was very slow in getting to the plot plus with the "language barrier" it was a very dull read for me. If you speak Brit it might interest you. less
