The Enzo Files
review 1: Competently written, but full of the improbable leaps of logic that bedevil a lot of wilder detective fiction. The premise is completely mad and entirely too much of the book is spent on computer searches and long descriptions of shapely graduate students clicking things whilst oversized Scotsmen galumph about discovering precisely the right clues. It sort of worked when Sherlock Holmes could condemn a man to death on the basis of his trouser cuffs and then force a confession by sheer weight of character, but it's less convincing when Enzo seems to know exactly which stretch of French sewer to search on the basis of a blurry photograph of a medal. The book would also be completely impossible in a world in which criminals were not compelled to leave full confessions in the ... moresubstance of their crimes.
review 2: I listened to this audio under the title 'Dry Bones'. Not sure why the titles are different but it is the same book, the first in the Enzo Files series. I listened to books #4 and #5 and wanted to go back to the beginning for more back story. It didn't help much and wasn't really necessary to understand what is happening in the more recent stories. Plus Enzo can be a bit much. The character seems to be one that you would have to love in order to put up with him for long. Otherwise, the yearly release of the new addition to the series is plenty. Too much Enzo tends to stir up my inner feminist. Not that his overbearing ways are confined to women and he will admit to being wrong, so there is that going for him. But I think I'll skip #2 and #3 and just wait for the final two additions to the series. Audio narrated by Simon Vance. less

Not a patch on the Blackhouse Trilogy. Bit of a Dan Brown Da Vinci Code feel about it.

Right now I'm finding this tedious and unnecessarily complicated...

Enjoyable read, Good mystery, happy end. Liked the Paris setting.

Ok. But nowhere near as enjoyable as the Lewis trilogy.
