review 1: The story is somewhat delightful. I felt with the main character at times too. The way the plot twists and turns is exciting. I am not exactly a big fan of the author's plentiful metaphors and similies and comparisons, the are too obvious, they limit the reader's own imagination, they are too philosophical and also obsolete. I skipped over most of them. They take up too much space, and are especially pointless when the writer goes on to mention several metaphors of analogies in one sentence. There is a persistent sense of obscurity in the novel which is very interesting. The main character however is a pussy, he is an investigator yet he is easily swayed by others and instead of taking the lead himself and forcing others in his direction, which is his job, he lets every on... moree else control him the entire time. Some ideas introduced in the novel are unoriginal, but the author goes really far and makes them exciting and unpredictable. Like the ideas of people being zombie-ed, or that a huge company is the reason behind all evil, especially by one evil rich white old guy in some suit, or crazy weird behavior that the main character has to live with. All these are not very original. But overall, the novel was a fun quick-read.
review 2: Quite bizarre, something like Kafka through the looking glass. The Investigator tries to carry out his investigation into a spate of suicides at the Firm, and encounters nothing but obstruction again and again. Nothing is as it seems in this world he has entered, and everything is sent to try or torture him. Along the way he is forced to question everything he has held to be true including his own identity, and the nature of self. Totally engrossing and easy to get lost in this is an absurd and wonderful work. less

unabashed riff on Kafka, but much more playful, while still being itchily disconcerting.
Arina
Absurd and ends in death. No surprises. Nothing exciting.
