review 1: Ok, I'm not honestly sure what to think. I have read P.B's Secret Series before, so I know some things. Like who the author is and how he knows so much about his "Characters". Hint : ME( like how obvious it is now). I forgot who Clay was even being shortly introduced to him in the Secret Series. But to have Max and Cass and Owen still be vaguely involved, I'm not sure I like it. Plus, there are more questions than answers per usual P.B style. Knowing what I know, I'm not all that impressed. So more magic is real? Who exactly is the enemy now? I'm frustrated because while I liked the book, there wasn't a whole lot of cleaver plot, it was just sort of meh. I am older than the middle grade level I get it, but I still thought it was a ok read. I may read the next ones, if only... more to get answers. But knowing P.B's style and nature, there won't be any REAL answers ( hence the secret series of those who know what I am taking about). But I do think Clay will make a good magician, even if the whole tempest thing was just odd.
review 2: Bad Magic is about a 6th grader who does not like magic anymore sense his older brother disappeared. He believes that magic is cheesy and unreal. Then suddenly words that he wrote in his journal appear mysteriously on his school wall as graffiti. The graffiti sends him to a camp for troubled kids on a remote volcanic island, called Earth Ranch. At Earth Ranch, Clay is surprised to find magic, a ghost, and a scary secret hidden in the abandoned library. He finds himself talking to a llama, and trying to solve the mysteries of the island while avoiding the volcano lava. This was Bad Magic is a great kids book for fifth graders up. I would recommend this book to kids who like fantasy. less
