review 1: I enjoyed every moment of this book. The mystery was complex enough to be interesting, and the characters were believable and delightful, plus the heroine had a sense of humor. The only problem was the names - each character seemed to have at least 3 names, all of which had 3 syllables containing at least two dipthongs each, making the names nearly impossible to pronounce even in the mind, much less keep straight. But on the plus side of this - the main characters all had two syllable single-dipthong nick-names.

... more is soon linked to 2 other deaths and a wide ranging political situation that pits politicians against environmental groups. While this book took a little while to grab me I soon became engrossed. Bates is a skilled mystery writer and does an excellent job of developing his characters, in particular the main female policewoman It is a bit challenging to keep the Icelandic names straight, but worth the effort. So much better than Cold Comfort the 2nd in the series. less
