review 1: Het eerste deel van een serie kent een wat aarzelend begin. We maken kennis met Gunna die samen met een team in een klein dorp waar normaal niks gebeurd met een moord te maken krijgt, tenminste daar gaan alle aanwijzingen naar uit. Het begin is dan ook zeker even doorbijten, maar naarmate je verder in het verhaal komt wordt het steeds boeiender. deze IJslandse thriller staat niet bol van de actie en spanning, maar zit gedegen in elkaar en weerspiegeld zowel de misdaad als het economisch klimaat waarin het land verkeerd. geef deze voor zijn wat aarzelende begin 3 sterren, op naar de volgende delen en hopen op meer.
review 2: I can safely say this was the worst book I have ever read. I would have given up on it but it was my book club selection so I had to finis... moreh it. Don't be fooled by the cover blurb: this is NOT a "meticulously constructed thriller as chilling as an Icelandic winter". There is nothing thrilling or chilling about this confusing, mixed up plot. The difficult Icelandic names and place names make for heavy going too. It would help if authors provided a glossary so that we would have a guide to pronunciation. I did start to enjoy it around about the middle of the book, but that was only when the main character was forefront in the story and my enjoyment was very short lived. A complete disappointment. less
