review 1: I actually liked this book a lot better than the first in the series. The author is better at weaving the complex lives of the characters together against the backdrop of Iceland's economic collapse. We get to know Gunna better, and he's stopped hitting us over the head with physical descriptions of her. The book was entertaining, and the mystery part was well-crafted. There were a few too many characters - did we really need four people in the Syndicate? Also, Jon Jonsson's character could probably have been merged with another small bit. But overall, and interesting read and a promising series.
review 2: Gunna is an interesting and well developed character. She and her team are looking for an escaped prisoner who may be responsible for a series of ass... moreaults, and then they are handed the murder of a fitness coach with a sideline as a highly paid prostitute. It all takes place in the aftermath of the economic crash in Iceland - the consequences of that crash affect everyone and every element in the story. less
