review 1: I enjoyed Rachel Herron's previous books, they were fun, they had knitting, romance, they were fun and enjoyable. But this book? This book is amazing. Deeper, really getting into the characters' hearts and minds and souls. They are flawed people, dealing with some really hard crap, dealing with the past, the present, trying to get to a future. Really truly amazing book. Kudos to Rachel! And BTW, I haven't even finished it yet! I cannot wait to see how it ends....actually, I don't want it to end!
review 2: This is a beautiful book, about love, grief and the weight of secrets. It's not a Cypress Hollow story, which I think it's super important for people to know because if you're looking for that kind of story, this isn't it. It focuses on hard and painful bits,... more ways in which we're broken, ways in which we cling to hope, ways in which we look for solace and hope for redemption, even when we think we don't deserve it. The characters feel remarkably real; people you could be or know, which feelings that are real. Confusion, sorrow, fear, love, all written with an earnestness that speaks volumes about how well Herron understands love and the flaws that make us human. less
