review 1: This is a short story and a sort of prequel to the Girl of Fire and Thorns series. It takes place prior to the first book in the series and is told from the point of view of Elisa's older sister. It doesn't do much for the series other than give us someone else's perspective of Elisa as she was at the beginning of the series. But it is a captivating little story and a good read, so if you are a fan of the series then I would recommend that you read this story also.
review 2: The Shadow Cats is an acceptable book, but it didn't live up to my expectations. I understand that it was designed to be short and precise, like a novella usually is, but I feel like the plot didn't reveal as many "Alodia secrets" as I would have wanted it to reveal. The writing was extreme
... morely sophisticated, as Carson usually writes, but the story was just too short and obscene. It is not necessary to read this novella to better understand the Fire and Thorns trilogy. All it is is more conflict with Perditos/Inviernos and magic. less

It's nice to know that bad-ass women run in this family.
