12 Jan : Immortal remembrance of India’s Soul – Swami Vivekanand

Youth, Education, Spirituality, Brotherhood, Hinduism, India – A few words that define Swami Vivekanand.

Today is the best day to remember the man who is as relevant today as way back in 1863, the year Swami Vivekanand was born as Narendranath Dutt, to a Bengali family. He was very close to his mother. Like any other child, Vivekanand was very naughty in his childhood and as he grew, he had a vision for India in his eyes. Since he was 8, Vivekanand was inclined towards spirituality. He died at an early age of 39. In just 31 years he did wonders for the world.

“Sisters and brothers of America, I greet the youngest nation in the name of the oldest nation in the world.”

Beginning of the lecture delivered at the Parliament of the World’s Religions at Chicago, United States on 11 September 1893.

123 years back these few words uttered by one of the most admired spiritual leaders of the world, Swami Vivekanand, created history. The opening line was greeted by a standing ovation from a crowd of 7,000 which lasted for three minutes.

Disciple of Ramakrishna Paramhans, Swami Vivekanand was the founder Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

An inspiration for the Youth of the World, Swami Vivekanand’s birth anniversary is celebrated as National Youth Day.

Some of his sayings one must incorporate in his/her life :

Arise! Awake! and not stop until the goal is reached.
You cannot believe in God until you believe in yourself.
In a conflict between the heart and the brain, follow your heart.
They alone live, who live for others.
Neither seek nor avoid, take what comes.
Ask nothing; want nothing in return. Give what you have to give; it will come back to you, but do not think of that now.
“Do one thing at a Time, and while doing it put your whole Soul into it to the exclusion of all else.
We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.
