Loved, loved, loved the movie. So of course, I have been wanting to read this for a very long time. Finally got around to it. And I am not disappointed.
I chose this particular novella to fulfill the 2018 POPSUGAR Reading Challenge prompt: A book made into a movie you’ve already seen. Not quite a book. But a movie was still made based on this story so I think it still counts.
Holly Golightly is a dreamer. She is not only searching for happiness, but a place where she belongs. Hardly a conventional young woman, Holly goes along life in her own way. With her own beliefs. Oftentimes, she comes off as a bit naive. But you can’t help feeling for her.
I had two roommates in college who were obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. One of them introduced me to this movie and I’ve loved it ever since. Apparently Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe to play Holly. I don’t see it.
One big difference between the novella and the movie is the ending. Although both endings fit. What I mean is, I’m okay with both endings. The ending of the film, fits the film. That’s the ending I would want to see on the big screen. The ending of the novella fits the novella. A happily ever after ending would be unsuitable for the story.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s because I watched the movie first that I enjoyed the reading. Usually, I read the book first and then watch a disappointing movie adaptation. Because inevitably things are always changed from book to movie. Which upsets me. And is the reason why books are always better than their adaptations. Not this time though. I loved this charming little novella. And I still love the film.
I think I’m going to listen to “Moon River” right now.
