Enchant by Micalea Smeltzer (Book Review)

Title: Enchant (The Enchanted #1)

Author: Micalea Smeltzer

Available from: 17th November at Amazon

Book Description:

Mara Pryce never imagined that her life was anything but normal and then a strange gray-eyed young man appears at her graduation. When he vanishes without a trace, she’s convinced he’s a figment of her imagination. Then he appears again and shatters her whole world.
Mara is an enchanter, part of an ancient line of Wiccan power, and a war is raging—one of good and evil—between the Enchanted and the Iniquitous.
The Iniquitous want her dead and it’s Theodore’s job as her protector to keep her safe.
When Mara and Theodore arrive at a safe house, where Mara will remain hidden while learning about her powers, they find that the real threat might be a little closer to home than they want to believe.

Honest Review:

Lets just be real for a second. This book was basically as though the Harry Potter series and the Mortal Instruments had a love child and this is the result. You have all the aspects of not knowing you have magical powers and being whisked off to a school/institute, whilst someone is out there trying to kill you. Standard.

I mean the book wasn’t completely horrible but it did lack excitement. It was as though you wait the entire book for a decent action scene, only for it to be cut it half and for the book to end just as the action starts.

I’ve not written a bad review before and don’t want to come across as being harsh but I don’t really know if there is much else I can say about it. The story line is there, just extremely vaguely. If it had developed quicker and was more exciting, I’m sure I would’ve absolutely loved it. Instead I tried to finish it as soon as I could, fearing that if I put it down I would never pick it back up.

I’m not completely against the idea of reading the next one, however, only if the plot is better through out and if it can hold my attention for long enough.
