Hackers’ Faire: now live at Cast of Wonders

Story Day! Very pleased to announce that Hacker’s Faire, my far-future story with cats, cyborgs and buskers mingling in a bombed-out space station in Toronto, is now available to read or listen at Cast of Wonders. The story is narrated by Wilson Fowlie and hosted by Alethea Kontis.

Hackers’ Faire was inspired by the amazing 2014 New York Makers’ Faire. Giant electronic giraffes, robots, rockets and 3D printers galore… I wandered the Faire in a daze, and in the months that followed, drew on that ‘sense of wonder’ to write my own version of a far-future Faire. I hope you enjoy reading (or listening to) it as much as I did writing it.

The story was accepted for the Artemis Rising call, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be a part of this venture. Many thanks to Marguerite Kenner, Editor of Cast of Wonders, for picking up this story, Wilson Fowlie for his awesome narration (I love the cyborg’s laugh!) and Alethea Kontis for hosting it. Hats off to Ashley Mackenzie for that lovely illustration for Artemis Rising 3.

In other delightful news, all four Escape Artists Podcasts are now confirmed as SFWA approved markets: Pseudopod, Podcastle and Cast of Wonders join Escape Pod, their sister-show, in becoming qualifying SFWA markets. What does this mean? It means that a publication at any of these venues counts toward membership requirements for the SFWA – the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America. I’m already a member, although so far I haven’t used my membership for much except nominating and voting for the Nebula awards. But there are a number of other reasons to join SFWA, and it’s a big achievement for a new writer to be able to belong, to feel part of a larger, professional organization in the SF/F genre.
