I have to admit, this was a really clever book. At first, I wasn’t quite sure if James Riley could pull it off. After all, this a novel, the penultimate book to a series and it’s a pick the plot book?
Of course, James Riley manged to pull it off, and pull it off well. I absolutely love all the characters and the new one he introduced! They are all so unique and add to the story nicely. I think the most unique aspect of this book was how the ‘Pick the Plot’ style wasn’t completely random. It was carefully planned out and it really tied the plot together and made the story seem more real. YOU the READER were now a character in the story. YOU helped Owen throughout the book. It was pretty darn cool. It was sort of like the fourth wall (I think XD) in theatre.
Though as cool as the ‘pick the plot’ format is, I’m really glad that it’s the only book in the series written like that. It sort of took away from the seriousness of the entire book. I’m not sure how to explain it, but it sort of interrupted the flow of the book. I also sort of worried the entire time that I wasn’t getting the full information I needed for the next book. It would definitely be a very fun book to own, although. I would love when I get bored to open the book and take all the different routes that I hadn’t taken before to see where they would leave me XD.
Personally, this was my least favorite book out of the four out so far. It wasn’t quite as funny, there was a lack in some of the main characters (plus my favorite character has been absent for TWO books now? Smh). Plus it didn’t feel quite as plot twisty or suspenseful.
A small complaint is that there was some time travel throughout the book, and it got a little confusing at some points, but that might have been just me XD.
