review 1: I knew I was trading on dangerous ground, going a little outside my comfort zone with these psychological thrillers lately. I like the suspense in addition to the mystery, and I like the additional characterization and family subplots that writers like this author weave in. But, this one got a little too disturbing, and because of that the suspense was painful. I wanted to quit reading but couldn't. I think what put it over the edge were all the passages from the POV of the villain. I didn't like having to see inside his psychopathic mind. I will have to be more careful about choosing my thrillers from now on!
review 2: Didn't know this was a series, so this book was not #1. But it was good. A really evil guy gets into peoples brains and manages to talk
... more them into killing themselves in various way like jumping off a bridge, but why is the question. And how does he manage to do it? The main character is a psychologist (who is suffering from Parkinson's) who gets pulled in to help the police. I liked all the characters except the wife and obviously the killer. I think I might just read another book in the series. less

Not quite as good as some of the other in the O'Loughlin line of books but still a good read.
