summary:

Galen is the prince of the Syrena, sent to land to find a girl he’s heard can communicate with fish. Emma is on vacation at the beach. When she runs into Galen—literally, ouch!—both teens sense a connection. But it will take several encounters, including a deadly one with a shark, for Galen to be convinced of Emma’s gifts. Now, if he can only convince Emma that she holds the key to his kingdom…

Told from both Emma and Galen’s points of view, here is a fish-out-of-water story that sparkles with intrigue, humor, and waves of romance.

goodreads review with spoilers!

Of Poseidon had been in my tbr list ever since 2012 and after five years, I finally picked it up. I wasn’t expecting much but I found myself enjoying the plot and liking the characters. Anna Banks’ writing was very easy to read.

The pace was set straight from the start where Emma knocked into Galen. The scene in the ocean was horrible to read. I was experiencing the distress and the panic as if they were my own. I was caught off-guard by the waves of emotions during that scene.

Most of the characters in Of Poseidon were very easy to like except for Rayna who irked me to no end at the beginning of the book. She’s so hostile and maddening. I had no patience for her; it was painful reading parts where she goes crazy accusing Emma of something she had no ability to control. She got better after a while so don’t let her personality throw you off just yet.

It was interesting to see Emma’s mother being so heavily involved in the books since most of the time, children seem to be left alone to go on adventures alone.

Emma and Galen had an insta-attraction thing going on. Although they were immediately attracted to each other, they didn’t get together abruptly. They’re still testing the waters with one another especially when things aren’t going the right way now.

Overall, a really fun ready. Didn’t expect myself to like Of Poseidon but I find myself looking forward to book 2!

“What did I do?”
“What did you do? Well, for starters, you used your face to stop a cafeteria door from swinging open.”
