The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer

This is one of the books I bought on my kindle a couple of years ago, after hearing rave reviews, and then forgot about.
From the blurb:

I’ll tell you what happened because it will be a good way to introduce my brother. His name’s Simon. I think you’re going to like him. I really do. But in a couple of pages he’ll be dead. And he was never the same after that.

This is an absolutely heartbreaking book, about a young man with mental health problems.

Matthew lost his older brother Simon when he was a child. Through Matthews narrative we find out how the death of Simon affected the family, the relationships Matthew made in his life, his decline after being diagnosed with schizophrenia and his inability to process his brothers death.

Filer was a mental health nurse, and clearly has a lot of knowledge on the subject.  I didn’t know that this book was about mental illness when I started reading, but it is a fantastic read, and if you’re interested in the subject I highly recommend it.

Let me know if you’ve read this book in the comments below.

Cheerio!
