Week in Review

Man, these weeks fly by. I may have to switch this to ‘Month in Review.’.

Book a Week: The Secret Adversary, by Agatha Christie. I do love Christie’s fast-paced mysteries, and I learned this week that she’s the most published author of all time, behind only the Bible and Shakespeare. This one was fun, the characters were likeable, the plot moved along nicely and the mystery stayed mysterious until almost the end. I do find it odd to read novels from the early 1900’s and note their authors’ use of racial stereotypes in character descriptions. Quaint. Several versions of this are free for Kindle right now.

I’m on Twitter and Instagram! I mean, I’ve been ‘on’ them for years but I’ve finally discovered them, thanks to my absence from Facebook. And I love them! Who knew?! You can follow me on Twitter (@brieanasmith) and Instagram (brieana.smith). I will follow you back! We will have fun!

Also, I can’t stop singing This Is Me from The Greatest Showman! To which I can’t link a video because I need to upgrade my blog. BUT – check these lyrics:

I’m not a stranger to the dark
“Hide away, ” they say
“‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts”
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
“Run away, ” they say
“No one will love you as you are” But I won’t let them break me down to dust
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious When the sharpest words wanna cut me down
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me It’s much better, you know, sung. I’ve listened to it about four dozen times this week, and I can almost get through it without tearing up now. Oh yes! I almost forgot – my recommendation for person to follow this week is Mary Demuth, who writes both nonfiction and fiction and whom I’d never heard of before this week but seems amazing. She talks about changing the ending to your story. I love that. Also she blogs three or four times a week, which is more than you’re going to get here. Enjoy!
