review 1: Great! Best novel in the Supernatural tie-in series! I loved the whole premise of a rogue angel sending Sam & Dean back in time with an opportunity to prevent the Apocalypse with limited loss of life compared to saying yes because the plan to kill Lucifer without the fight of the millennium is out of the question. Its always a great thing whenever time travel is used in the show, many of the best episodes involve time-travel with some of the best storytelling due to how hardworking the writers do to incorporate the past. 1955 New York City is so cool in many ways the story feels like Back to the Future or Mad Men with such an involved age. Sam & Dean hope to capture a lost scroll that will help them destroy Lucifer however they're not sure they trust the source of help... more with the rogue angel. Plus other dangers such as one of Lucifer's minions including his vicious and devoted bride Eisheth, a demon who was an angel yet rejected her grace and became corrupted to follow her lover in his war against mankind. Very twisted love story. Speaking of love stories I really loved the story between Dean and a hunter from the past named Julia. The relationship between the two was amazing. Dean's brother Sam usually has bad luck with women but at least he is willing to find love whereas Dean enjoys hooking up with women but ever seldom offers his heart. Cassie from season one and Lisa from seasons 3, 4 and 6 are great ladies because Dean truly is happy with them. Many felt that the character of Jo was supposed to be his love, but many felt that was forced and was unwelcome in the face of Dean's grief over the loss of his father. Julia was a great woman who was beautiful, elegant, yet casual and relaxed. A remarkable hunter as well as a great woman. Its a shame Dean and her couldn't be together. The end was an amazing conclusion but I feel should have gained a sequel in its own right. I know its a bit spoilery but I would like to know what happened to Eisheth. Did she reunite with her hubby and play a role in the Apocalypse? Did she die? Was there really nothing for Julia after she and Dean parted ways, I don't want to believe that. All in all a great story. A+
review 2: I've found that from reading Rebecca's other Supernatural novel that a lot of the fandom doesn't exactly enjoy her writing style and finds fault with her view of the Supernatural/Sam/Dean reality. After reading both of these books by her, I find myself wondering where people are finding fault. This book was an enjoyable read for me. The story brought forth further ideas from the time period of Sam and Dean being the vessels in Season 5 and I think both her and David expanded on them in a very put together way. Much like with One Year Gone, this book had me on the edge of my seat in parts, and equally happy with the banter between the brothers. It made reading the book that much easier to picture in terms of the show, the characters and the actors that portray them. I felt the author captured them justly and personally speaking I cannot wait to read more Supernatural books from this author should she chose to do anymore. Definitely a 5/5 with a story line that just plain worked. less
