Her Royal Spyness
review 1: Sadly, this book ended up being my least favorite in the series so far. The characters I've grown to love didn't play much: just a scene or two with Darcy and Belinda, Queenie must have been asleep on the bed the whole time. Séances and homosexual references didn't help either. Although the murder had some interesting twists and red herrings, the way they ended up solving it seemed a bit random and some of the things they did just didn't make sense. I really didn't understand why Georgie went back to London to see her Grandfather only to have him say, "Stay out of it and go back to Kingsdown." They discover a secret passage but hardly explore it and don't tell anyone. Other things get shared liberally with the police, but not that? I care about the characters and w... moreant to finish the series, but this one just lacked that something special I've come to expect from Royal Spyness.
review 2: A well-paced, mindless mystery read. Georgie finds herself in the country at the behest to the queen to help a friend train the newly found Australian sheep farmer who is to inherit a dukedom. Foul play is afoot when the current duke is found dead, and it is left to Georgie to figure out what happened before the local constabulary arrest the heir for lack of other ideas. This installment seemed quite repetitive, especially in the way the police inspector assembled the inhabitants of the house in the drawing room multiple times to bring them up to speed on the case or to pose a few questions. The narrative seemed to fall a bit flat for me this time; I'm thinking this is perhaps because it was read in direct juxtaposition to two other historical fiction novels that were both written in a more eloquent prose.... less

So I already want the next book in the series... I hate catching up the author!

this had a really unforseen plot twist. I really enjoyed this novel.

I'd give it a 3.5 if I could. It's fun, just like the others.
