Her Royal Spyness
review 1: Georgie has been seeking an escape from her house in London since her brother Binky and his wife Fig have moved in for the summer. It comes in the form of an invitation from the queen to represent the royals at a wedding in Transylvania, legendary home of vampires. The castle where the wedding will take place is Bran castle inhabited by the Impaler. Georgie has to have a maid accompany her and asks her grandfather's friend for hehelp in finding one. What she gets is far from a Lady's maid by the name of Queenie who knows nothing about serving royalty. Georgie also must have an escort and Lady "Horse-face" Middlesex will be her chaperon. Georgie realizes the bride is her old school chum Matty who has lost weight and looks entirely different. She finds her stay in the ... moremacabre-looking castle to be unnerving since there are spooky bumps in the night and she sees something climbing the wall outside her room. When a member of the wedding party is poisoned at dinner, the action kicks into high fear and careens to the ending.
review 2: I knew I wasn't going to like this book in the series as well as the others. I also knew I would still read it because I didn't want to miss anything in the series. Both points proved entirely true. I didn't hate the book, but I just don't love vampire stories, and I knew from the outset that a title like Royal Blood and a royal wedding in Transylvania was going to include one. The vampire comments got really old, really fast.I'm also sick of the pages and pages discussing the romantic habits and orientation of various characters. Many of them sleep around, a few don't, etc. I get it. Move on, please. In the end, I'm not surprised that soft-hearted Georgie takes on a maid that is best described as a "fixer-upper," but I hope that Queenie's character grows on me in the next few books. I found her a bit annoying and liked it better when Georgie was on her own.The best part of this book was the growing relationship between Darcy and Georgie. Georgie is realizing that she has indeed fallen for this ne're do well, even though she can't see how a future with him could possibly exist. For his part, Darcy is just beginning to realize he might want more than an easy conquest from her. less

I love this ridiculous, silly series. This is what I want from my fluff. Granted, I had to shut off my brain to stop it from analyzing the political implications of the plot, but the book is such lightweight fun that even I was able to shut off my inner critic and enjoy the ride. And that’s saying something. In the fourth installation, Georgie journeys to Transylvania for a wedding. Ms. Bowen makes excellent use of the setting for a lot of tropes in both the horror and mysteries genres, and the mystery itself is engaging. The supporting cast continues to be fun and the hijinks continue to be ridiculous, all while Ms. Bowen lightly skewers 1930s social pretensions. Recommended.

Well done romance mystery- 4th in a seriesMs. Bowen does an excellent job using humor and strong plot develop to make a far fetched story believable. Lady Georgiana is well connected but poor. The fun comes from seeing how she navigates in expensive society circles, hiding her poverty and solving a mystery. In book three she is sent to represent the crown at a royal marriage in a remote Transylvania castle. Murder and mayhem follow. The dialogue is crisp and character development is solid. If you're looking for a fast fun read reminiscent of Wodehouse's Jeeves this is the book for you.
