review 1: After reading several negative reviews on this book, I have to say I agree with the complaints that the characters are shallow. What I have to commend this book for is it's plotting. It unfortunately does seem to be the case that a book has to be more adept at either plot or characters and this was one of those that was more skilled at plot. I found this book to be exciting and suspenseful because you could tell the author was making sure the villain was using all his skills and not holding back. Many books become frustrating because they let their heroes off much too easily and I felt that to a point this one book did its best not to do that. Also, I think the author did a pretty good job adding fictional scientific explanation to the children's powers at least to a certai... moren level. I have loved H. G. Wells for his use of this method and it is nice to see newer writers that try out using this approach in their writing. So although this book struggles in the beginning with its school kid senerios, I think it can be commended for its use of the clash of the wills as the story moves along.
review 2: This was another great book by Richard Paul Evans. It was one of my favorites, including my favorite topic as well, science fiction. This book is filled with action and keeps you clinging on to your seat until the very end.Michael Vey is not your normal everyday high-school kid. He is electric. His best friend is a know-it-all named Ostin, named after the Texas city Austin. Michael lived with his mother in a small apartment, next door to Ostin. When Michael Vey meets cheerleader Taylor Ridley, they make a huge discovery. They both find out that someone is trying to find them. The plot of this book, Meridian, Idaho, is in fact, a real place. The author uses his knowledge of the area and topic to make the book even more interesting.Richard Paul Evans did a great job in his first childrens book, influencing me to read his next books. The author achieved the purpose of creating an inspiring story of teenage friends on a mission. less

I thought this book was pretty good!! What i liked about it: I liked the superpowers that he had!!! I found reading about them very interesting.. This book was filled with suspense and lots of action that kept me on the edge of my seat and had me reading more..What i didnt like: I found the writing to be a little nerve wrecking..First it was written in 3rd person so all the name throwing around while the story read on was giving me a headache..For example (random names/action)- spud went to the car..spud jr said to spud whatever whatever and spud commented to spud jr blah blah...like that...Some parts were kind of cheesy..The last thing that got me was some of the characters were awful..The things that happened in the story were gut-wrenching and i had trouble stomaching what was going on...I did think this story was good and liked how it played out..I will be continuing reading the next book!!!

Excellent and unusual story. Michael Vey is small and has Tourette's Syndrome making him a magnet for bullies, but he does have one good friend, Ostin, the class nerd. Michael also has an unusual and secret talent--he can produce electricity and zap people. Then Michael meets Taylor, a popular cheerleader at his school and it turns out she has powers, too. This turns into a dangerous stand-off with the discovery of more electro-kids and some bad guys who want to use them to take over the world. Book 1 of a new series. Exciting and unusual, although it does remind me a bit of Kathy Reich's series, The Virals. Middle school, boys and girls who like adventure.

Decided I had better things to do than listen to this book.
