review 1: Personally I think these Adventure Time comics are one of the best things that have happened. This book is good for Adventure timers. When I picked up this book I thought it was just about to be a bunch of episodes from the TV show. But no this is a NEW STORY. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5. This book has Finn, Jake, PB, Marceline, LSP, The ice king, and A NEW CHARACTER. This book takes place in the land of Ooo and in space. I don't want to spoil the book for you so, just go read it!!!
review 2: I'm a huge fan of the show, which has been on hiatus for a couple of months, so I figured it was time to finally check out the comics. I was satisfied enough with this volume, and it gave me my Finn & Jake fix. I especially appreciated some of the creative narrativ... moree devices that make use of the comics medium in a similarly innovative way that the show uses animation / TV.Unfortunately, I was a little let down by Finn's way of expressing himself in the comic, which I didn't think quite captured the spirit of his character. Yes, he is a hyper and happy-go-lucky kid, and he speaks and behaves like one, but he also has his own idiosyncratic (and delightful) style of using language. To give a couple of examples, here is his view on imagination - "Barf that! Imagination is for turbo nerds who can't handle how kick-butt reality is!" - and here is how he beats himself up when he disappoints himself - "I'm not righteous, I'm wrongteous! Stupidteous!"In the comic, Finn doesn't have any lines even approaching these ones. Ryan North has given him a much more typical "adolescent boy" voice, calling everyone "man" and "dude", throwing around terms and phrases like "cool", "awesome", "this sucks", etc. Finn does use that type of language on the show, but he does so in much more creative and original ways.Anyway, I'm half way through the second volume and I'm giving North the benefit of the doubt, because it's starting to get a lot better (and I recognize that it can't be easy to write in the incredibly original style of language used in the show.) less
