review 1: It was mostly enjoyable, but had several problems. It reads a bit like fanfic, and the author doesn't seem to know (or care) how actual science and spaceflight works. That could be OK, but... The author keeps trying to provide extra detail and explanations for things that just make it worse. If you're going to use phony science, that can be OK, but just gloss over the details. If the author never uses the terms inertial dampeners again, that would be a start.

I get to be naive with the (new) Captain of the vessel, and I get to relish in his growth and mistakes.While the story line is cliched, I don't like it any less then Start Trek: Voyager. In fact, I like it for the same reasons - I have strong emotional attachments to the characters, there is an interesting universe, and there's a clear sense of right and wrong to boot.I look forward to reading the rest of Brown's books. less
