review 1: Spoiler Alert: Bleh. The story took a while for me to get interested. I like suspense/mystery books, and I thought the story sounded interesting. The end of the book seemed like a cheat or an overstep by the author. I expect books written in first person to actually be first person, knowing that person's true thoughts, emotions, and motives. Gaby was so shocked or surprised or restless, and it was all a game? With the reader? I don't get it. I thought it might end this way but figured no author would do that. The first 9/10 of the book, Gaby had no idea why her husband seemed so distant, then at the end, she admits to the reader that she knew about the affair? Simply weird.
review 2: Well done and suspenseful... The ending caught me completely unprepared, and t
... morehat is unsettling. I had to do some analysis of the thought process that allowed the author to pull me down the path she crafted. I read for entertainment and diversion, and a plot with the themes played out so well in this book can trigger an "I don't want to keep reading" response in in me. But since I didn't put the book down and kept reading, the well-crafted plot had hooked me into hoping for a satisfying outcome. I'm still not sure how satisfied I really was, but without question Durrant did a fine job of weaving a plot that pulls the reader into the world of one woman's denial as her world is crashing down around her. A few more clues planted earlier would have been appreciated by this reader. I hate feeling blindsided by mysteries that really can't solved because critical details get held back that should have peaked out somewhere earlier. Nonetheless, I think I was unsettled at the close of the book at least partly because I had one of those " flat head" moments in which I groaned, did a mental slap of my forehead, and told myself that I should have seen the end coming! less

I just couldn't get into it. Read to about page 50 and gave up when it wasn't holding my interest.

Sort've guessed but then there's the twists....no spoilers here! Cleverly written.

Not a bad thriller, probably a three and a half. A good ending.
