Unfortunately for Oliver his Grandmother & siblings machinations & he's meet a woman who very, moral sweet & uncompromising standards for marriage (not her body) he has no hope.It's amusing to see him going through the motions of being a rogue & unaffected.

Tired of the scandals, their grandmother decrees that they each must marry within a year or she'll disinherit all of them, leaving the Plumtree Brewery to their inept cousin. Oliver, who knows the truth of his parents deaths but has lived with the shame of it for more than twenty years, is convinced that his grandmother is bluffing and decides to masquerade a doxy as his fiancée to call her bluff. However, on his way to do that, he comes to the aid of American shipping heiress Maria Butterfield who came to London in search of her missing fiancé.
